Little Women

     I introduced Little Women released in 2019. Its director is Greta Gerwig. The film is about the lives of the Merch sisters: Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth. It is seventh film adaption of the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa Alcott. Saoirse Ronan plays Jo. Through especially Jo, the story goes on. This character is long for becoming an writer and behave like a boy.

      The film has three of good things. First, it tells us women have a right to decide their own future through four sisters. Second, from the fact that it is said Jo is Louisa Alcott and Jo married but Louisa didn’t, the film is made, respecting Jo and Louisa Alcott, because Jo in the film is expressed well as Louisa as well as Jo of the novel by showing Jo’s past and present. Third, not only women but also men can enjoy the film, because, from the viewpoint of Laurie, a neighbor of the Merchs, the film tells us how men are oppressed by the reason you are a man. Also, a bad thing about the film is that it is sometimes hard for audience to understand if some scenes are about past or present. Actually, when I watched it for the first time, I couldn’t understand it. 

     From these things above, I’ d give four stars to the film, because I believe it suits 2020 in spite of the old story. Therefore, Little Women is a wonderful movie which every generation can enjoy.

     I read The Canterville Ghost

. Its author is Oscar Wilde, and it appeared in book form in 1891, in a collection of stories for adults called Lord Arthur Savile's Crime and Other Stones. The story of the book is about the Otises, an American family who buy an old house from Lord Canterville, an English aristocrats. The house has been haunted by the ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville for 300 years. The Otises don't believe in the ghost at first, and when he appears, they are excited at the existence of the ghost without being scared. That makes him feel depressed and frustrated by not playing his role in frightening people as a ghost. One day, Virginia, the only daughter of the Otises, comes across the ghost. Thank to her, he can die completely.

     In the book, I like a scene that Sir Simon was scared at another ghost which the twins of the Otises were disguised as in order to make a fun of him, because the ghost hadn't seen other ghosts except him even when he was alive. While reading, it was so hard for me to smoothly read tho book,because insertions are included a lot in the book.

     If you's like to read a book on a strange but nice ghost, I strongly recommend The Canterville Ghost.

The Kingdom of the Snow Leopard

"Do you really think the most precious thing on Earth is a diamond? Do you think the most precious thing on Earth is money?" (P 68 L 18,19)

     I read " The Kingdom of the Snow Leopard." Its author is Elspeth Rawstron. It was published in 2007. The story of the book is a kind of adventure. Its main characters are Tom, Mahir and Tara. Tom was a high school student from England ans tall with fair hair and blue eyes. Mahir was a prince of the Kingdom of the Snow Leopard, was Tom's close friend and a the same high school student as Tom was. Tara was Mahir's younger sister and good at archery.
    In the book, Tom spent his holiday with Mahir in Mahir's country. At first, Tom was surprised at its culture and food, but gradually he got used to them. Tom enjoyed the country's festival with Mahir and Tara. However, in an archery competition, Mahir hit the blue eye of the black dragon, which was regarded as bad luck. He was disappointed as it, but his father cheered him up by disclosing his experience. After that, Tom enjoyed another festival with Mahir and Tara again, but an accident happened to Tara....
    After I read "The Kingdom of the Snow Leopard," I learned a lot about Bhutan. Actually, the book's model is Bhutan, the Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon. since before I read the book, I've already been interested in Bhutan, which of the King said," Happiness is more important than wealth,"so in the Kingdom of Snow Leopard, there was no TV, cars, fast food and so on, too like Bhutan. I learned how something more important than money and physical stuff. The definition of happiness depends on each person, but Bhutan's one is so impressed, In the book, it was included somewhere. If you don't know what happiness is, please read the book, and you will get a hint to be happy from Bhutan's happiness.

The Stolen White Elephant

  " Naturally the chief is the hero and his happiness is complete. I am happy for him although now I am a homeless beggar. "( P 54 L 4~6)

     I read " The Stolen White Elephant." Its author is Mark Twain. It was published as a part of a collection of short stories in 1882. It is based on a real event that happened in 1878.
     The story of the book is comedy and is that , in NY, someone stole the white elephant which the King of Siam gave to the Queen of England, and NYC police force tried finding it. When I first read the book, I didn't understand how the inspector Blunt found the white elephant and if he was a bad person or a good person, so I talked about them with my friend, Rina. However, we couldn't the truth. If someone understand the book, please tell me the truth of the book. In the book, clues for finding the elephant are hidden. Finding clues, reading the book was so fun. If you want to read a comedy and mystery book, I strongly recommend "The Stolen White Elephant."

A Christmas Carol

 I recommend “A Christmas Carol” written by Charles Dickens in 1843. The story is about Scrooge, a cruel and old man who lived in London at the beginning of the 19^th century. He was alone and mean. Before a Christmas day, Marley, a died friend and colleague of his, came to Scrooge’s house as a ghost and warned him to do good and be kind in the rest of his life and told he will have troubles and regret after die, if he doesn’t. After Marley’s ghost left him, three ghosts came one by one and haunted him. They showed him pasts, presents and futures of him and some people around him. In the middle of the process, Scrooge started to understand being generous and thinking about other people was so important. After the last ghost left hi, he changed his mean mind into a good one and he finally became a good person. Also, the book’s main argument is that Christmas is a time to think about other people, to forgive and a time to be generous. From this perspective, the intended audience for the book would be 10 yeas old or over, but when someone read aloud, children who are under 9 years old could understand.

     The phrase I like the most is

 “ Scrooge became as a good friend, as good a boss, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city or town, or country, in the good old world”

 on page 74, because Scrooge, who was not kind to others at the beginning of the story, finally became a very generous person, which made me feel be saved. Scrooge seemed cruel, but he was the most honest person in the story, because, although people usually hide what they want to say to behave like a nice person, Scrooge say what he think in person , even if irony was included in it. I think he was very honest, so he was able to change his mind and I knew from “A Christmas Carol” even if we feel alone , uneasy , unkind and mean to others, we can be a good person. Therefore, if you are tired and feel insecure, I recommend “A Christmas Carol” to you. The book will make you feel relieved.
